Spotlight on Darlene Morgan

Darlene Olson was born and raised in Salt Lake City. She comes from pioneer heritage. Two great-grandfathers colonized Snowflake, AZ and Darlene’s family has rich history there. She grew up with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. On Jan. 15, 1962, Darlene married Steve Morgan. They moved to Bigfork in 1967. Steve was called to be Branch President of the Bigfork branch in January 1980. He was the first Bishop to preside in the present Bigfork Ward building, when the branch was made into a ward.

Darlene and Steve have five children. Two beloved sons, Todd and Jeff passed away as young men from complications with Hemophilia. Todd was an Eagle Scout and multi-talented. Jeff was an electronics genius and a big-hearted family supporter. They have three other children: Stephen, Tracy, Taryn and nine grandchildren.

Darlene loves music and playing the piano. She loves to write and has won creative writing awards, including an all expense paid trip for two to Atlanta, GA. She received alumni honors from South High in Salt Lake for her community service achievements. She served on the local Food Bank board for many years. Like her mother, Darlene is an accomplished artist. Darlene says, “I can’t remember a time that I didn’t draw!” Darlene also says that she has always been drawn to people. This love makes people and animals her favorite subjects. Her beautiful drawings of the Savior capture His loving essence. Her favorite mediums are India ink, oils, charcoal, and pastels. This summer she has been sketching pastels of her grandchildren. Her art seems to draw the viewer into the heart of the portrait.

Darlene and Steve spend winters in Utah and Arizona. She keeps up with her visiting teaching all year by visiting Marlene Gage in Arizona/Bigfork and Millie Lindsey in Utah/Bigfork. That is dedicated sisterhood!
